Blockstream Jade Plus Description 2025

Blockstream, a leader in Bitcoin and blockchain technology, has expanded its hardware wallet line. The popular and cost-effective Blockstream Jade is now joined by the “Jade Plus”. This new model is aimed at Bitcoin users looking for a more robust feel, improved usability and a premium design without sacrificing the uncompromising security philosophy of the original.

The most obvious difference to the standard jade is the processing quality. The Jade Plus swaps the lightweight plastic housing for a solid, precision-machined aluminum alloy. This not only gives the device a significantly higher weight and a cooler feel, but also significantly increased robustness for long-term use.

The second major visible innovation is the screen. The Jade Plus has a 66% larger IPS display. This additional space makes reading addresses, verifying transaction details and general navigation on the device much more convenient and reduces the risk of errors during verification.

Improved operation and well thought-out details

Blockstream has also revised the physical interaction with the wallet. While the original Jade uses a rotary wheel for navigation, the Jade Plus relies on improved, tactile buttons and a new button on the front to make operation more intuitive.

What remains the same: The focus on safety

Despite the physical upgrades, the core of the Jade Plus remains identical to that of the standard Jade. Both devices are Bitcoin-only wallets (with support for the Liquid Network) and are completely open source, both in terms of hardware and firmware.

The most important safety feature is retained: the air-gap capability. Both jades have a built-in camera that enables transactions to be scanned and signed using QR codes only. The device therefore never needs to be physically connected to a computer or smartphone. In addition to the Air-Gap function, users can also connect the wallet via USB-C and Bluetooth.

The new Jade Link

The “Jade Link Bundle” combines the Blockstream Jade Plus hardware wallet with the JadeLink, a special USB-C memory stick. The main purpose of this bundle is to maximize the air-gap functionality of the wallet. With the JadeLink, users can perform firmware updates and sign transactions (using PSBTs) without ever having to connect the Jade Plus to a computer or smartphone via USB or Bluetooth. Instead, the data is loaded onto the JadeLink and then securely transferred to the completely isolated hardware wallet, which further minimizes the attack surface.
